The story of how one (very minor) branch of the Shuttleworth family gradually moved the 9 miles, as the crow flies, from living in Widdop, just over the border in Yorkshire to Rawtenstall.  From the 17th century to date, via Cliviger to Rossendale, from the moors to subsistence farming,  quarries, coal pits to working in the mills etc.  So much social history is covered by their story.

Rabbit holes in this case is not a place, as one SPAG member thought, but the QI moments that you come across while researching that deviate you off your main topic.  You never quite know where you might end up, or how long you might be down any particular rabbit hole, or if you might even be drawn into yet more QI topics….

With so many QI moments, by the end of the lecture time,  we only managed to get to the moment the Shuttleworth’s were making their move out of Widdop in the early 19th century.
