Around the UK in Classic Railway Posters. A Talk by Jane Ellis

Do something train related and you can be sure of a good audience and this lovely talk was no exception.  These highly collectable and extremely decorative posters and carriage prints now command huge sums of money so it was an unexpected pleasure to see an original, in addition to many, many digital copies.

Jane tours the North of England delivering this talk in addition to several other subjects.  Her professional and relaxed style reflect this.

From idyllic beaches, beautiful mountain scenery and even industrial subjects, the sun always seemed to shine in the UK, but we already knew that didn’t we?  Many famous artists were commissioned to produce alluring but somewhat deceptive advertisments but when they tried to use photographs of people, their charm disappeared.  Fortunately this seems to have been a short lived experiment.

Jane’s final slide of a clock on the Necropolis Line provided a real contrast to the rest of the subjects with the sobering thought that even in death, you could undertake a well organised railway journey!
