Ilex Mill, Rawtenstall

Ilex Mill

Bacup Road, Rawtenstall

BB4 7NQ

This iconic mill which is now converted into apartments, was built in 1856/7 and abandoned in 1986. There were many calls for its demolition (including from local councillors) but fortunately both it and its magnificent octagonal chimney, were saved by a developer in 2003/4. In its heyday, it had its own siding from the Rawtenstall to Bacup railway line which ran along the current Bocholt Way.

Best viewed from the junction of Fallbarn Road and Bocholt Way.
