The late Titus Thornber was a well regarded local historian whose books History of Cliviger and King Charles’ Mine (fiction based on fact) are well worth reading for anyone with an interest in the area.  His son David, a SPAG member kindly loaned us a copy of his talk on the Thievely Pike Mines.

With an in depth description of 17th lead mining and the ramifications of King Charles I dissolving parliament and urgently seeking revenue, including trying to acquire the ‘profits’ from the lead mines, Titus told told an extremely informative and intriguing story.

The feedback from the audience was very positive but the recurruing theme was; how did he memorise so many names, dates and details without notes!  Amazing.

Originally recorded on VHS video tape, transferred to DVD at a later date and now on mp4 format, it will hopefully be available for future generations.
