Tucked just inside the Rossendale boundary, the bottom of the chimney is of ashlar stone construction, whilst the top appears to be a brick built extension. Built for the bleaching of cotton in the second half of the 19th century, it is shown on the 1890 OS map as Deeply Vale Bleach Works.  It is located at the bottom of Cheesden Valley. The mill was the last one in this valley to close.

Access isn’t easy.  From Edenfield head towards Rochdale and shortly after passing Owd Betts pub, turn right into Ashworth Road.  After passing the reservoir on your right, the road heads sharply left and immediately on your right is a gated track to Yates Farm. Follow this track over the stile (you can see the top of the chimney straight ahead, in fact this is probably the best view), continue downhill, ignoring all paths to the left until the main track levels out and there is an obvious left turn.  Follow this to the chimney but be warned, the area is extremely boggy in any but the driest of weather.  Views of the chimney are obscured when the trees are in leaf.
