Extremely wet and windy weather conditions this week put paid to our plan of two days of digging but there was a good turnout on the second planned dig day.  For some members this was their first dig and  they enjoyed learning new skills in a friendly setting.

Sue and her team cleaned up Trench 1 ready for Chris to accurately draw the position of the stones with the aid of the planning frame.  The stones were then removed but there was nothing of note in the soil underneath.

The Trench 2 team extended the trench in order to ascertain the dimensions of the stony surface and continued cleaning round the stones already uncovered.  Meanwhile several members were shown how to use the metal detector and had fun unearthing corroded  lumps of iron which have lain undisturbed in the soil probably since early last century.

The next Dig Day is Tuesday April 30th when we will record the position of the stones in Trench 2 before delving further down to try to discover what lies beneath.
