Walk towards the bottom of Rawtenstall Cemetery and you may well see the grave of William Arthur Love.
The inscription reads:
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
WILLIAM ARTHUR LOVE
THE FIRST & MUCH RESPECTED
MANAGER OF THE ROSSENDALE
VALLEY TRAMWAYS COMPANY
WHO WAS KILLED AT THE POST
OF DUTY
THROUGH ACCIDENT
ON 11TH JANUARY 1895
IN THE 31ST YEAR OF HIS AGE.
What was the story behind that I wonder. If anyone has the time to research it, we’d love to know more.
