Facit Chimney

Facit Incline, Whitworth

OL12 8XG

Towards the top of the Facit incline is a small square chimney used by the quarry finishing-works below. The gravity-powered incline transported stone to the Facit and Rochdale branch railway.

There is a blue plaque which reads:

‘Facit Chimney was built in the mid to late 19th century to remove fumes or steam from the finishing works serving Facit Stone Quarries.  The conservation of the chimney using traditional Lime mortars was funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund in 2008.’
