Tunstead Dig Update

With the cows finally removed from the field we made plans to extend Trench 2 and have a peek under the large flat stones we had previously uncovered.   Guided by Neil a small group of us spent two days in dry, sunny but quite chilly weather de-turfing then carefully recording the stony area.  No significant finds were made but careful trowelling of the earth under the stones revealed small pieces of charcoal and perhaps some bone fragments but these may be too small to have dated.

The trench has now been backfilled and the dig concluded. Neil will be giving a full report of the Dig in his talk in January.

A big thank you to our Dig Director Neil and to everyone who took part in and supported SPAG’s first archaeological dig.
