Weavers’ Triangle and Oak Mount Mill

More than a dozen of us met at the Weavers’ Triangle Visitor Centre in Burnley on a glorious August morning.  We began with a guided tour along the canal led by local historian Roger Frost who pointed out various interesting features on the towpath dating back to the times when this part of the Leeds and Liverpool canal was a hive of industry.

Our walk included a visit to Oak Mount Mill to see the working steam engine (although now powered by electricity).  The tour concluded with a look round the Visitor Centre but the group decided to continue their exploration of the area by walking along the canal to Finsley Gate Wharf.  Formerly a sawmill and canal board workshop this area now incorporates a delightful cafe with outdoor space on the canalside where we enjoyed a tasty lunch.
