Haslingden Parish Church Plague Stone or Early Cross Base
Positioned close by the wall of the church, is this intriguing stone. Were the holes filled with vinegar to disinfect coins used for payment of provisions during the plague years or were they sockets for an early cross?
Nobody can now be sure but all are agreed that’s it’s many years old!
