Haslingden & Todmorden Turnpike Trust: Waterfoot to Hitchon Dams Branch (B6238 Burnley Road East)

An Act of Parliament in 1815 allowed for the improvement and creation of a turnpike road from Waterfoot to the Rochdale and Burnley Turnpike Trust’s road at Deerplay.  Few original artefacts remain unaltered but two of our members – Richard Matthews and Frances Bland – have put together an in depth look at the route which can be downloaded hereTurnpike Project B6238 Waterfoot to Deerplay results and conclusions.
